La imaginación emblemá-tica en el drama de Tirso de Molina
by Pablo Restrepo-Gautier

La imaginación emblemá-tica en el drama de Tirso de Molina explores how Tirso de Molina (1584 - 1648) uses the emblem in his dramatic works and how he contributes to the development of emblematic forms. This study approaches Tirso’s drama from the point of view of the “emblematic mode of thinking.” Although the book does deal with the emblematic form, it focuses on the capacity of the emblem to break down systems of signification and recombine them in new and surprising ways. The introduction explains the genesis, history and mechanism of the emblem, and then raises several questions about the adaptability of the emblem to drama. Chapter 1 explores the ways in which Tirso manipulates the emblem for dramatic purposes. In Chapter 2, an in-depth study of the topic of the elm and the vine, shows how Tirso participates in the manipulation of systems of signification in the manner of the emblem-writers.
